Scotland | Roads to close for Kingston Bridge inspection after weather caused falling concrete


The emergency works are being carried out after concrete fell from the Kingston Bridge.

Officers were called to Paisley Road under the M8 in Glasgow at around 3am. yesterday.


A number of roads are set to be closed overnight after adverse weather caused concrete to fall from a motorway bridge.


Officers were called to Paisley Road under the M8 in Glasgow at around 3am following reports of debris falling from the Kingston Bridge.


The road was closed while the concrete was cleared before being reopened.


Amey dispatched engineers to the site to inspect the area who identified “deterioration” caused by adverse weather.


The company has now confirmed the carriageway of Paisley Road between Seaward Street and Dalintober Street will be shut on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to allow for emergency works to be carried out.


The inspections will take place overnight from:


8pm on Tuesday, January 14, until 5am on Wednesday, January 15


11.30pm Wednesday, January 15, 202,5 until 5am hours on Thursday, January 16


8pm on Thursday, January 16, until 5am on Friday, January 17


An Amey spokesperson said: “Yesterday morning, an Amey on-call structures engineer attended the site and inspected the affected area, allowing Paisley Road to re-open.


“To ensure the integrity of the Kingston Bridge Complex structures and the safety of the public, which is paramount, Amey undertakes a series of routine inspections at varying frequencies each year.
