Carriageway resurfacing, and new road markings are among the package of upgrades set to get underway next week on the M20 in Kent.
The £2.7m maintenance scheme is the latest in a series of improvements National Highways are making in the south east to ensure motorways and major A-roads are kept in good condition to make sure they remain safe, reliable, and keep traffic in the moving.
Starting on Monday 4 September, National Highways will begin a scheme to resurfacing the M20 between junction 11 (Westhanger) and junction 13 (Folkestone). The carriageway will also benefit from the repainting of the road markings. The scheme is expected to take two-months to complete. Speaking about the benefits that drivers on the M20 will see and feel, Folashade Shoyoye project manager at National Highways, said: “The M20 motorway plays a pivotal role in connection key regions of Kent, facilitating trade, tourism, and daily commutes. Like any road, it requires regular maintenance to ensure it remains safe and reliable for the thousands of motorists who use it daily. “This upcoming scheme is part of our ongoing efforts and investment in keeping key routes in the south east in good condition.” To complete the work safely and efficiently, and to minimise disruption to motorists, National Highways will undertake the work under overnight closures between 8pm and 6am seven days a week. The first set of closures will take place on Monday 4 September, with five nights of overnight closures of the London-bound entry slip at junction 13. As well as road signage, National Highways will be posting information about what section is closed and when on a dedicated webpage: M20 Junctions 11-13
