Road closures while 'hazardous vegetation' removed

Two slip roads off a dual carriageway in Derby will close while works to clear "hazardous vegetation" takes place.

National Highways said essential maintenance and safety work on the A38 between the A516 and Kingsway will begin on Monday and last for five weeks.

The A516 northbound exit slip road to Hospital Island will shut between 20:00 and 06:00 GMT from Monday to 24 January.

The A516 southbound exit slip road to Mickleover Island will close overnight between 27 January and 14 February.

A National Highways spokesperson said: "We'll clear branches that are overhanging the carriageway, lift the crowns of some trees and remove some dead trees that are within falling distance of the road.

"We'll also remove brambles and scrub and before doing any work will make sure there are no nesting birds."

The organisation said during the closures, a fully signed diversion will be in place and emergency services will still be able to access the routes.

A spokesperson added: "We'll make every effort to ensure the impact on the local community and travelling public is kept to a minimum.

"We always aim to work to the programme, however, unforeseen circumstances or adverse weather conditions may mean changes."
