Norfolk County Council begins search contractors to build Long Stratton Bypass

Norfolk County Council has begun its search for contractors interested in considering building the Long Stratton Bypass.

The 3.9km single carriageway project is expected to cost around £46m and will start in late 2023..

When open at the end of 2025, it will remove through traffic on the A140 from the centre of Long Stratton by providing a bypass to the east of the town, reports Construction Enquirer.

Latest cost projections are nearly £9m above the original fully-funded estimate with a government contribution of £26.2m already secured from the Department for Transport.

The council wis now exploring all sources of infrastructure funding to close the gap and a revised breakdown of funding contributions will be included in the full business case that will be submitted for approval by government when all statutory approval processes are completed.

The project will consist of a new single carriageway road to rejoin the existing A140, three new roundabouts and two new junction arrangements, two new overbridges-one vehicular, one pedestrian and a new 450m single carriageway link into the town from the bypass.
