New dates for SHL!ve and Respect Our Roadworkers week as CEO slams government

Safer Highways flagship events moved due to new covid variant and government announcements.

Safer Highways have announced that, due to the recent government announcements over the new variant of Covid-19 we will now be holding both our Respect our Roadworkers week and indeed our flagship SHL!ve event later in 2022.

Respect our Roadworkers week will now move from its intended date in March to a new date in early June with SHL!ve, our industry-wide engagement event now taking place at the Coventry Building Society Arena on the 27-28 of September.

Both decisions have been made to ensure that the events can not only take place but also comply with any restrictions which may be in place and also can do so in a way that we can safeguard attendees.

The announcement comes as we move into level 4 of restrictions given the risk that the country now faces around the new Omicron variant of the Covid-19 virus.

Neither decision has been made easily, however, despite the lack of clarity from government, it has become clear that there will be a significant reluctance to send people from within organisations and thus the stability and sustainibality of the events would be at risk.

Speaking about the decision Safer Highways CEO Kevin Robinson said,

"Sadly, in light of the latest government announcements it has become apparent tthat we will not be able to deliver either our #respectourroadworkers week or indeed SHLIVE in the way we intended to do on our original planned dates and as such we have acted quickly to move both events due to what we anticipate to be further restrictions in the new year.

"As always, we continue to adhere to government guidance to ensure we continue to deliver the utmost duty of care to those who support our events and as such this was a decision we were, sadly, faced to make in light of current circumstances.

"That said, given how we successfully delivered our "Gathering" last week where our attendees were served Goats CHEESE and WINE with no civid cases reported I am obviously disappointed at the draconian response as we also handed out a number of AWARDS, albeit without the PM's press office in attendance."

New dates for #respectourroadworkers week will be announced in due course
