There's plenty of works nearby too

Motorists have experienced 'near-misses' after issues with temporary lights set up for roadworks at a North Staffordshire junction. For at least two successive days the lights between Brown Edge and Endon have got stuck on red in all directions sparking long queues.

And drivers have been negotiating the problematic lights with residents hearing horns being blasted over near-crashes. Now highways chiefs have been called in over the problems at Clay Lake's junction with Edge Lane and Broad Lane.

The four-way lights went up on Tuesday (March 25) as part of broadband works in the area. According to roadworks monitoring site, One Network, they should be finished by tomorrow night.

But Staffordshire County Council have been called in after the lights stopped working - including during the busy afternoon school pick-ups. Councillor Joe Porter, who represents Brown Edge and Endon onStaffordshire Moorlands District Council, said: "There have been a number of issues with the temporary traffic lights at the top of Clay Lake, Endon.

"Over the last two days they appear to have been on red in both directions and its causing near-misses and is causing both dangerous hazards and congestion during busy periods. Councillor Keith Flunder and I have reported it to the Staffordshire Highways team and to LightSpeed who are carrying out the works as an urgent matter."
