National Highways have confirmed they are “developing options” to improve an accident blackspot near the Powys border.
The stretch of the A483 at Llynclys Crossroads between Llanymynech and Oswestry has been described as “dangerous” and one that “causes frequent crashes and holdups”.
National Highways said the improvements will be “taken forward” following a Government spending review and funding agreement.
A National Highways spokesperson said: “We are developing options for improving Llynclys Crossroads, which we hope can be taken forward once the Government spending review is completed and funding agreed for RIS3 (the third roads investment period).”
The Government-owned body installed monitoring cameras in the area in January 2025, saying it hoped the cameras would allow it to better understand the traffic flow through Llynclys to consider what can be done to make the junction safer.
North Shropshire MP Helen Morgan welcomed the development, having previously called for speed limit reductions on the road as well as a redesign of the junction to make it safer.
In March, Ms Morgan highlighted the spot as a “dangerous” piece of road by raising it in Parliament, urging the Government to review Treasury rules that "prioritise road speed over safety", to ensure junctions like Llynclys receive more investment.
In response, the Transport Minister acknowledged the importance of the issue and pledged to work with Department for Transport colleagues to consider projects like the A483 as part of the spending review which is coming up.
Darren Jones MP added: "It’s not just about the decisions around spending. It has been a problem in the past where decisions have been made and then reversed, creating difficulties for the supply chain, investors, and local communities.
"In our multi-year capital budgets and 10-year infrastructure strategy, we will provide stability to the UK economy so we can deliver projects such as the one she mentioned."
