MULTIPLE accidents involving animals were reported in the New Forest across January 2025.

The amount of animal accidents reported was six times more than January the previous year, with 13 reported to authorities for January 2025 and only two reported last January.

A spokesperson for New Forest Police branded January "a disappointing month" due to the increase in accidents.

A spokesperson for New Forest Police said: "Op Mountie is our multi agency approach to reducing speed and animal accidents across the New Forest where we regularly join forces with our colleagues at Forestry England, the New Forest National Park Authority and New Forest District Council."

However, on a more positive note, officers recorded that February 25 was "possibly the quietest session ever with only 4 cars stopped for going above the 40mph speed limit at Matley Wood and that at Kings Hat".

A spokesperson for New Forest Police said: "Three of those drivers were spoken to by our partners about why New Forest are so unique and the other one was given a speeding ticket for travelling at 52mph.

"The encouraging news is that the vast majority of drivers were under the speed limit so thank you all very much.

"Thanks also to everyone who has suggested roads for us to survey in the future – they are on our list and you will see us there soon."
