Kier nabs Newport health centre build

Kier has won a £27.5million contract to deliver a health and wellness center in Ringland, Newport.

The contractor will develop a site for two general medical practices and community services, including general medical services, community dentistry and social care provision.

Work on the Welsh project has already started and is expected to be completed in January 2025.

The contractor‘S’s duties at the Newport site will also include the development of a new parking lot and a mobile health center. The work is done for the Aneurin Bevan University Board of Health.

Jason Taylor, Kier Construction Regional Manager for West of England and Wales, said: “This new health and wellbeing center will be directly linked to the community center allowing[ing] for effective integration with wider community services and create[ing] a focus on health and well-being within the community.

Nicola Prygodzicz, chief executive of the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, said the work would enable patients to access a range of health and social services “under one roof”.

Kier won the job via the £560million NHS Building for Wales framework, which he landed a place on in 2018. Earlier this month, Bam also landed an £84.5million job in Wales via the same framework.

This work will see Bam develop a 63-bed mental health facility in Bodelwyddan, North Wales.
