SHL!ve announce premier industry safety speaker as second high profile speaker for this year’s event.

SHL!ve are pleased to announce Jason Anker MBE as the second high profile speaker confirmed for this year’s event.

Jason Anker was paralysed from the waist down due to an avoidable incident on a construction site in 1993 when he fell off a ladder. He was 24 years old.

His story of his life before the incident, the day of the incident, the time spent in hospital and rehab, his initial release from hospital and his struggle with life over the last 29 years is an honest and sometimes graphic account of the devastation the incident has had on Jason and his family & friends.

For 29 years he was unable to talk openly about his experience of a work related major incident. This is reflected in a story that is very raw; the emotion in which he delivers his talk is as strong as if it was the day of the incident.

Having worked with many organisations within the construction sector Jason’s story is one which may be familiar to many but one which few have had the honour of hearing outside of their own organisations.

His audience walk away from his talk engaged with the process of health and safety because they have witnessed first hand the effect of getting it wrong. Jason works with many major Blue Chip companies who have seen the benefit of not just telling staff and contractors what to do, but showing them what the personal effect could be by ignoring Health and Safety guidelines.

Jason becomes the second high profile speaker confirmed for the event after Big Ian Donaghy and will form part of a stellar line-up in the keynote, Safer Infrastructure, theatre.

To be held at East Midlands Conference Centre on 29th September 2022. The event will incorporate both Respect our Roadworkers week and The Big Idea, with the live final in the afternoon of the full day programme.

SH L!ve is made up of indoor and outdoor exhibition zones showcasing the latest innovation, products, concepts and services in the health, safety and wellbeing sector, alongside several unique feature areas that will bring all the latest insight.

Speaking about the announcement of Jason as a speaker, Kevin Robinson, Co-Founder of SHL!ve said,

“Jason’s reputation proceeds him as a speaker who can make a real impact.

“From a personal perspective he has a real connection with many of the challenges we face on worksites day on day, from speaking up when we witness unsafe practices, poor metal health as a result of workplace incidents and ultimately the way human nature can lead us to a place we can not only recover and thrive.

“I am personally honoured that Jason would consider imparting his knowledge and experiences at our event to benefit the supply chain.

“He is an asset, an advocate and a friend to Safer Highways and I am proud we are able to welcome him to our event.”
