New drone footage shows how work on the new A30 link road in Cornwall has progressed over the last year. Construction on the 3.9 mile single carriageway between the A30 and St Austell began in July 2022 and is due to be complete by Spring 2025.

The road will connect the old A30 near Victoria to the north and the A391 at Stenalees roundabout to the south. When fully open, Trezaise roundabout will also link Carthew, Whitemoor, Trezaise, and Harmony Road in Roche.

The drone footage, shared by Cornwall Council, shows the area at the early stages of the project in September 2023, compared to the huge scale of the development now as it nears completion next year. This includes the new Tresaize roundabout, the Harmony underbridge, the stretch heading towards Harmony Road, and Harmony Road roundabout.

As part of the scheme, the council is building walking and cycle paths, with crossings under the road at Hensbarrow and near Harmony Road. A wildflower corridor will also be put in place to support local wildlife.

Locals had been campaigning for the new link road as far back as 2014. Steve Double, the former MP for St Austell and Newquay, said when the delayed road was announced in 2022 that it would be “vital” for the area.

The Department For Transport confirmed on June 6, 2022 that it would provide funding of £78.5m for the project. Cornwall Council has also provided £6m and £0.4m will have been made from Section 106 contributions, which has given a total budget of £84.9m for the scheme.
