Record number of volunteering days to be donated
Costain, the infrastructure solutions company, is marking its 160th anniversary in 2025 by donating a record number of volunteering days to improve people’s lives through transforming career prospects and supporting community projects across the UK.
Around 7,000 volunteer days will be used by Costain’s people this year to help organisations including Business in the Community and The King’s Trust, as well as local community projects. Costain’s experts, including engineers, consultants and quantity surveyors, will help those facing barriers in finding work through activities such as coaching sessions, supporting them to gain the skills needed to find good, sustainable employment and unlock their potential.
Costain’s people will also support the communities where they live and work through volunteering for local projects.
"Over 160 years Costain has established a successful track record of delivering positive social value for people and communities. We know the impact we can have when our professionals share their skills and experience to help break down employment barriers and to support local community projects across the UK."

Catherine continued: “We’re working closely with our charity partners and customers to narrow the skills gap and improve the employability of underrepresented groups. Together, we're helping to shape a world where barriers to education and employment are reduced, and people’s lives are improved.”
Mary Macleod, chief executive of Business in the Community, said: “At BITC we believe that every young person and jobseeker should have a clear pathway into employment.
“Employees at Costain support jobseekers through our Job Coaching programme, providing one-to-one coaching to jobseekers to help them develop the skills they need to find good employment. Costain also actively supports our work across communities and regions with representatives sitting on our South West, South East and North East Regional Leadership Boards. Costain is committed to delivering social value outcomes for people and communities across the UK, and we look forward to continuing to work with them to transform lives and help communities thrive.”
Last year, Costain announced its Social Value Plan, which aims to improve the lives of one million people by 2030 through activities such as volunteering and community efforts.
