National Highways had promised to finish by the end of the year.
All work along the new £330 million A30 dual carriageway is now going to take at least another six months to complete. to be completed by summer 2025, National Highways has said the full upgrade including all the side roads and slip roads will now be finished by next summer.
Anyone driving along the newly opened stretch of road between Carland Cross and Chiverton Cross near Truro will not have failed to notice the great number of cones in situ at various exits and junctions. While the actual new road opened in June ahead of the summer holiday and has been flowing since without too many issues, there is plenty of ancillary work along the 7.8m stretch of road that needs doing before the project can be signed off, which the government body had said would be done by the end of the year.
After making a push to get it ready for the busy summer season, ahead of the road itself opening National Highways said the rest of the work would be done within six months - by December. It will now be a further six months on top, making the total project one year behind schedule. The Covid pandemic did delay the start of the project back in 2020 by six months.
Bridges over and tunnels under the dual carriageway, a green bridge and access to and from the old A30 before it is detrunked and handed over to Cornwall Council need to be completed along with the installation of safety barriers, signage and tree planting.
Truro and Falmouth MP Jayne Kirkham posted on her Facebookpage how she met with contractors Costain for an update. She wrote: "I met Costain to discuss the remaining works to the roads around the A30. The dualling is complete, but the verges, some Infrastructure and the B roads are not finished! Here’s the amended timeframe. I will chase this until it is done."
She also posted a map of the work that still needs doing along with a timescale for completion with spring 2025 the latest publicised date for some of the work.
